about the photographer...
Peter Scott Smith is a Canadian photographer whose work focuses on black and white photography.
His portfolio showcases a meticulous approach to traditional photography, emphasizing texture, light, and composition across several distinct themes:
Key Photographic Subjects:
Landscapes: Dramatic scenes ranging from the slot canyons of the American Southwest to the misty forests and lakes of Ontario.
Industrial: Gritty, high-contrast images of machinery and industrial structures.
Architecture: Studies of form and light in both modern and historic buildings.
Museums: Atmospheric shots capturing the stillness of museum interiors and exhibits.
Background & Style
Technique: He primarily uses high resolution digital cameras, which allow for the ever increasing
level of detail seen in his prints.
Philosophy: His site name, "Personal Space," reflects an contemplative and intimate expressional approach to capturing the world, often stripping away colour to focus on the spiritual essence of a scene.
The photographs here are of places and things I chase down to experience them in my personal space, so to speak. I love searching out interesting landscapes, architecture, and all things mechanical while wandering around on a motorcycle to find them. The randomness of nature captured by Ansel Adams, or the geometrical architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, inspire me to look at the world differently. Most of the photographs here were taken while traveling over the years on my motorcycle with just a few clothes, a laptop, and my camera.
I've been known to ride thousands of miles just to get out of my head and into my personal space...
